commodityking2011groupFerris & Lindgren Farms of Norquay, Saskatchewan has been crowned this year’s Hudye Soil Services 2011 “Commodity King Challenge” winner. Pat Ferris and Dale Lindgren of Ferris & Lindgren Farms topped this year’s challenge with pricing their Commodity King Challenge Canola at $571 m/t or $12.95 per bushel on their farm in North East Saskatchewan, Canada.

The Commodity King Challenge emphasizes the importance of not only Maximizing Production, but also Maximizing What You Get Paid For That Production. The eight producers who participated in the 2011 Canola King (a related production challenge) were allowed to price their canola from the challenge at any point up until Dec 16, 2011 at a $0 basis to the Nov. ICE canola futures. With a recorded yield of 65.81 bushels per acre and a realized price of $12.95 per bushel, Ferris & Lindgren achieved an outstanding $852 per acre Gross Revenue, reported Braden Hudye, President of Hudye Soil Services.

The Commodity Kings were in the midst of harvest on September 12th, 2011 when the decision was made to lock in some production, a decision of this magnitude is never easy for any producer. Knowing the importance of the markets, cycles, fundamentals, and technical analysis allowed these “Top Shelf” producers to make the decision when it really counted, reported Braden Hudye.

The Commodity King Challenge winner is awarded a $5000 travel voucher to a destination of their choice.
