Hudye Farms Inc

Hudye Farms was started in 1947 by Paul Hudye and his wife Pauline. The original farm consisted of a 1/2 section with many different types of livestock. Paul grew wheat, barley, flax and canola. By the mid 1950's the farm had expanded to approximately 2300 acres and employed 4-5 people in the busy seasons. Hudye Farms Inc. was incorporated in 1983 by Paul, and his two sons Greg & Ben Hudye. As of Spring 2003, the farm had grown to approximately 15,000 acres.
Hudye Farms Inc., employs intensive crop production plans through Hudye Soil Services. The objective of this alliance is not only to increase overall production on the farm, but also to improve the quality and consistency of the commodities produced.
Beginning in the fall, the land is soil tested. From this, fertility recommendations for both Macro and Micronutrients are developed. Micronutrients are supplied to the plants both as a seed treatment and through foliar feeding. Herbicides keep the land free from contaminating weeds and allow the crop to thrive. Fungicides are also applied to suppress the possible impact of disease. Constant monitoring and planning through the growing season ensures all aspects of crop production are maximized. The result is an optimum quality, consistent product.
Hudye Farms Inc. grows wheat and canola in their crop rotation. They rely on the finest quality seed with optimum genetics to start off every year. Canterra Seeds have proven themselves and have been adopted as the first choice in canola. Superb (Canadian Western Hard Red Spring) wheat is the variety of choice due to its capability of out-yielding many of its competitors.
New technology is something Hudye Farms Inc. is always looking to test. Along with being involved in the Field of Dreams Project, Hudye Farms also carries out various research initiatives on their own. The intent is to discover, on their land, which products and practices will prove beneficial. Many input decisions are based on the results from this research. This data is always of interest to customers of Hudye Soil Services because it is an excellent source of local knowledge.
The Hudye's also have had sizeable Bison and Elk operations. Their livestock have won numerous awards both nationally and internationally. The awards are listed on the page links at the top of the page.
